Carl Miller Park was filled Saturday with area residents attending the annual Fourth of July celebration organized by the El-Whyhee Business Association. More than a dozen vendor booths were set up, offering food, crafts, raffles and information, and the park featured the annual Wash and Shine Car Show, a small "Art in the Park" exhibition and contest, as well as bouncy houses for the kids. In the cook shack area, Don Goodwill had set up a huge G-gauge model train layout...

The Elmore County Fair and Rodeo will take place July 10-16 at the fairgrounds in Glenns Ferry. The theme for the 106th county fair is "Wallow in the Fun." Daily admission to the fair is $3 for individuals ages 7 and older, and free for children age 6 and under. Seeking safer ways for children to get to and from school in Mountain Home, a group of city officials and concerned citizens met last week to identify possible solutions. The walking tour around East Elementary School, Hacker Middle School and surrounding neighborhoods was another step in the city's Safe Routes to School initiative...

A fire in one unit of a duplex at 331 W. 2nd North St. Thursday morning caused approximately $15,000 damage to the dwelling. But Fire Chief Phil Gridley Jr. said it could have been worse, and demonstrated the value of having sprinkler systems in buildings...

Duane and Millicent Silva celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 30. Duane Silva and Millicent Morese were married in 1946 in Vay, Idaho, at her parents' home. Duane worked in a variety of professions over the years, retiring from the civil service at Mountain Home Air Force Base. Millicent and worked as a teacher. The couple have lived in Mountain Home for 30 years, all in the same home on Tindall Court...

At least two mobile homes and a two-story house, as well as numerous outbuildings, have been destroyed in a fire currently burning off the Old Grand View Highway northeast of Division Road.
