(Glenns Ferry, Idaho) One of the largest commercial solar pool heating systems in Idaho is now in daily use at the Glenns Ferry community pool. The roof-mounted solar collector system was installed in early August by Renewable Energy Resources, Inc., and is helping heat a significant portion of the pool as well as helping Eastern Elmore Recreation District lower their monthly natural gas bills in operation of the pool's existing and still functional, boiler heating system...

Richard Urquidi has announced his intention to run for a third term on the Mountain Home city council. Born and raised in Mountain Home, he said he wants to see Mountain Home "continue to be a great place to live, work and raise a family." Urquidi graduated from the University of Idaho, with a bachelor's degree in education, majoring in mathematics and political science. Pet concerns misguided

Dear editor: I'm sick to death of "so called" concerned citizens for pets. If you are so concerned about a pet that's been left in a vehicle -- don't write a note. Have the guts (or whatever you wish to call it) to call the authorities -- the cops, the animal shelter, the vets office, etc., or better yet keep your butt there and confront the owner or take down the license plate go into the building and have the person paged...

When the economy goes south, local governments take it in the teeth. Their revenues are highly dependent upon the economic strength of the communities they serve. In times like the current economic crisis, it means services get cut back and infrastructure improvements get delayed (which only adds to future costs)...
