A power outage that occurred last Thursday left a woman stranded in one of the city's few elevators -- and resulted in an improvement in the Elmore County Extrication Unit's capabilities. The outage occurred at 9:21 a.m. when a dump truck hit a power pole, tripping power to more than 1,850 customers on the north side of Mountain Home and in Prairie, according to Idaho Power...

A $75 donation presented to the Mountain Home Youth Center staff Monday morning launched a new effort aimed at keeping the facility open in the coming year. The presentation by the local Farm Bureau Insurance company became the first of what organizers hope will become a long-standing initiative to save the youth center...

Tim Bondy, 50, has announced his candidacy for one of the two seats up for election Nov. 8 on the Mountain Home City Council. Bondy, who has lived in Mountain Home for four years, served in the Air Force for 20 years as a meteorologist. He retired in 2003 and went into the information technology business. He and his wife, Toni, have four adult children and two grandchildren...

The new legislative redistricting map, adopted on a 6-0 vote last week by the state redistricting commission, will return most of Owyhee County to the same legislative district as Elmore County. Ten years ago, eastern Owyhee County and Elmore County were combined into legislative District 22. But after the 2000 census, redistricting placed Elmore County and Boise County together in District 22, even though there was no paved road directly linking the two disparate counties together...

This Thursday, Oct. 20, from noon to 4 p.m., Elmore Medical Center will upgrade its phone system. "The existing phone system has reached its maximum capacity and could no longer be expanded to meet the facility needs," a hospital spokespersons said...

Larry and Patti Hall will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Thursday. The couple were married on Oct. 20, 1961, in a civil ceremony in Mountain Home with family and friends in attendance. Dear editor: I would like to comment on the wonderful job Sue Basabe and Edie Corbus from Fitness First did on organizing and managing the "First Annual Harvest Fun Run." Everything went so smoothly and was well represented with runners, supervision and spectators. What a wonderful experience for ourchildren! It helps carry through with the country's promotion on kids needing more exercise. I can hardly wait for the second annual "Harvest Fun Run."...
