Col. Charles Shugg, commander of the 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home AFB, has been nominated by the president for appointment to the grade of brigadier general, United States Air Force. The nomination, made late Friday afternoon, but now be approved by the United States Senate. There was no immediate work on how quickly Shugg's nomination, along with several others being nominated to flag rank in the various service, will be taken up by the Senate...

Work on the Mountain Home Public Library expansion is entering the home stretch, and with the cover over the outside patio being completed now the emphasis is moving to inside the building. Last year voters approved a $1.5 million bond to more than double the size of the library, and many of those voters have taken to driving past the library at least once a week just to see how their commitment to the future is coming along...

Kurt Gerard Petty and Terrie Elaine Enoch have announced their engagement. The couple plans to marry on Saturday, May 27, 2006. Kurt moved to Mountain Home from Port Huron, Mich., in the fall of 2004 and is currently employed with the civil service at Mountain Home Air Force Base...

Marilee R. Westphal, 74, of Grand View, died Oct. 31, 2005, at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. She was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Goshen, Ind., the daughter of Harold and Edna Bates. She married Burton W. Westphal on Oct. 14, 1948, and they had 13 children...

V. Eileen Stoddard, 91, of Mountain Home, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005. She was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Faulkton, S.D., to Furness and Lillian Leonard Lambert. She married Hanford George Stoddard June 15, 1934, in South Dakota. She attended Yankton College at Yankton, S.D., and later graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education from Black Hills State College in Spearfish, S.D...
