Paper's AFAD coverage poor, needed more pictures -- fire the editor
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/17/14)
Dear editor: What one occasion has helped put and keep Mountain Home on the Idaho map? We are known for the Air Force Base being here in Idaho and the city and state have battled a lot of closure threats to keep the Air Force here. After 54 years of showing our appreciation to the base, we had a wonderful parade on the 6th of September with bands, vehicle exhibits, dignitaries, animals, Air Force Base squadron floats and representatives, and other extraordinary floats that filled our two-hour parade.. ...

Leaders give tax money to illegals
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/17/14)
Dear editor: I always read Mr, Bradbury's letter after I read yours. I had never heard the word disenfranchisement before so I looked it up in my dictionary and I see many of our leaders use it without saying they are doing it. It basically means free from a pledge or obligation. Our elected officials do it all the time...

Things have not gotten better in 50-plus years
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/17/14)
Dear editor: When I got out of the Marine Corps in 1969, I cruised the strips for a couple of years in a built-up '57 Chevy, paying 38 cents a gallon for Richfield Boron, 106 octane right at the pumps. Today, it costs me around four bucks per, but if you still drive REAL machinery like I do, 91 octane doesn't pass for "premium." So, I have to add octane boost to my older cars, a lead substitute to protect the valves from the heat from unleaded gas, and NOW have to use a product to protect my fuel systems from corrosion.. ...

Thanks for all the help at the AFAD free burrito breakfast
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/17/14)
Dear editor: Remember when foxy B-1B pilots' wives rocked the AFAD Parade with their float, "Bad to the BONE?" Now the Buccaneer's awesome "Pirate Ship" lands and blows the rest of the floaters away. Jumpin' Judy caught up with some Singapore Airmen at Carl Miller Park and brought them back to Jovial Jerry's Lounge, where the parade began...

Minico takes turnovers to triumph over Tigers
(High School Sports ~ 09/17/14)
When asked earlier in the week by the Twin Falls media about the Mountain Home Tigers, Minico Spartan head football coach Tim Perrigot replied: "Sporadic is the way I describe them. At times, explosive, and at times, they make a lot of mistakes." Friday night, the Mountain Home Tigers definitely made a lot of mistake, turning the ball over eight times in a 59-24 con-conference loss to the Minico Spartans at Minico...

X-country team to host meet Thursday
(High School Sports ~ 09/17/14)
Last Saturday, the Mountain Home Tiger cross country runners competed in a fun run called the "Splash and Dash Meet" at Ponderosa State Park in McCall. "This was a race for fun," said Tigers cross country coach Doug Root. "The runners who attended were divided into ten teams made up of runners from all the schools. Then they had to come up with a team chant, then they had the race, with boys and girls together and they made up teams, so we had runners on all the teams. This was just for fun."...
