Enid Janice Walker Zahourek, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, devoted friend and neighbor, passed away in her sleep on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at the vibrant age of 94.

Enid was born on August 13, 1930 in Lava Hot Springs ID to Parley and Mable Walker. Raised in Glenns Ferry ID towards the end of the Great Depression and during the prelude to World War II, Enid graduated from Glenns Ferry High School in 1948 with a strong work-ethic and a determined nature that would serve her the rest of her life. She had a sly smile and a genuine laugh that masked the sadness of losing her father, a sister and a brother early in her life, an ache she bore with a quiet grace. She would later settle in Mountain Home, ID and raise a family, oftentimes alone and in chaos, but she did the best she could to provide a safe and comfortable home for her three sons. In her later years Enid was not idle. When she wasn’t taking in laundry, babysitting her friends’ children or walking around town running chores, she could be found volunteering at the El Ada Food Distribution Center, supporting her community for over 25 years. Enid made friends of strangers everywhere she went, always ending transactions and conversations with “thank you, have a nice day”, sincere pleasantries that aren’t often heard today. As her health began to suffer she shared jokes, eye-rolls and her good humor with her healthcare aids and hospice nurses, beautiful people who made her final days comfortable and with dignity.

She is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, her sister Shirley Mae Walker, her brother John Marshall Walker, her brother Charles Delos “Dee” Walker, her husband Charles W. Zahourek and her son Curtis W. Zahourek.

She is survived by her daughter Velda (Douglas) Reed of Lava Hot Springs, ID, her son Alan Morris of Mountain Home ID, her son Kevin (Diane) Zahourek of Enumclaw, WA, her sister Marilyn Stoddard of Lava Hot Springs, ID, and numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 1st at Rost Funeral Home in Mountain Home ID at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Enid has asked that donations be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in her name.

And now, the work of my life is done. I’ve shed the burdens that have bent my back and curled my hands and I smile as I slowly tread the path that’s been set for me, every step bringing me closer to the small garden on the horizon. My garden. Here I will sit, feeling the warm sun on my face, every breath becoming more shallow until I close my eyes for the last time. I can finally rest.

For Mom.
