City staff needs to avoid ‘sleeping at wheel’

Wednesday, February 5, 2025

Dear editor,

What’s happening with our city?

First, from the Jan. 15, 2025, issue of the Mountain Home News, it was reported that “city crews failed to complete and submit a scheduled inventory of the city’s water service line,” thus causing a water advisory to be declared. In the Jan 22, 2025 issue, it was reported that a “failed yearly payment” between the county and the city may cause the city to lose its dispatch service – a cooperative agreement between the city and county.

All of this happened because the city missed, once again, the deadline.

It sounds like somebody is sleeping at the wheel. Missing payments and other deadlines is not good sound business management and causes nothing but trouble and confusion.

By the way, I really enjoy Brian S. Orban’s editorials. They are long and well written most of the time and add some life to a sometimes dull edition of the news.
