City Councilwoman Becky Garvey reads excerpts from the book “FRIEND City” to students at West Elementary School as she takes steps to introduce these third graders to the roles various city officials perform during the “Readers Become Leaders” event held Thursday.

Created by the Association of Idaho Cities, the state-wide program uses books like these to introduce students to various problems cities in places like Idaho face as they continue to grow and to illustrate specific examples of how city leaders and other officials unite to help solve these various challenges.
