Investigation continues following incident at county courthouse
Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Postal Service inspector continued an investigation into an incident that led to the evacuation of the Elmore County Courthouse on Monday.
The evacuation came after staff members at the courthouse received an envelope addressed to one of the county employees that had a white powdery substance leaking out of it.
Following the evacuation, law enforcement requested support from the Region Four hazardous material team from the Boise Fire Department. Wearing white protective suits, members of the team tested the powdery substance.
Those tests showed the substance was benign and not toxic, according to Mountain Home Police Chief Jon Thompson. In addition, the letter included with the envelope posed no explicit threat to the person it was addressed to.
