Frederick Edwin Kase

Frederick Edwin Kase of Mountain Home, ID, was born to Bessie (Marley) Kase and Edwin Kase in Oregon City, OR on April 27, 1944. He passed away at the age of 80 on September 7, 2024 after rapid progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Fred grew up in Pocatello, ID hunting and building and shooting black powder rifles with his father and their friends in the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, and spending time at his parent’s cabin in Island Park. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1963, married Sue Petty in 1965, and raised 3 children with her.

He served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He then worked as a salesman for Philip Morris Tobacco Company before being hired by the Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman, and then being promoted to locomotive engineer. He often ran freight trains from Pocatello to Nampa or to Cheyenne, WY, and sometimes ran Amtrak passenger trains. He retired in 2004 after 32 years with the Union Pacific.

Fred began competitive shooting in 1988 and was a Master Black Powder Cartridge shooter. He won many regional matches all over the western states, including the Scope Nationals at Raton, NM in 2000, and the Oregon State Scope match in 2006. He made many friends within the competitive shooting community and was always willing to help others learn to shoot.

In 2005 Fred met Patricia Agenbroad, and they were married in 2007. Fred and Pat moved to Mountain Home in 2018, and were married for 17 years. They enjoyed travelling around Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming to watch Pat’s granddaughters compete in college rodeo. Fred loved shooting matches, big trucks, whiskey, ice cream, and socializing. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by his parents Bessie Kase (1985) and Edwin Kase (2012) and his step-mother Eleanor Kase (2023). He is survived by his wife Patricia Kase, children Reggie Spaulding (Scott), Troy Kase (Laura), and Trent Kase (Brooke), step-children David Agenbroad and Steve Agenbroad (Shawn), 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 28 at the Mountain View Cemetery, 725 N 18th E St, Mountain Home, followed by a reception with a light lunch at Rost Funeral Home, 500 N 18th E St. If you would like to make a donation in Fred’s honor, please consider donating to The Idaho Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
