On Sunday, August 25, 2024, Mr. Fred D. Horn, Jr. passed peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus at home surrounded by family, at the age of 83.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents Fred D. Horn, Sr. and Alice Lorraine Bourdon-Horn. His sisters Cheryl and Kathie Jo, his son Charles Lee Horn, Sr. and his first wife Mary Fern. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marquetta Louise Horn, sister Joylene, sons Duane Earl Horn, Fred Marshal Horn (JoAnn), Edward James Horn (Linda), Clarence Dean Hart (Tamra), daughters Jo’an Lorraine Corey (Todd), Carol Lynn Litz (Michael), Karen Lea Eilers (Dan), 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Fred was born on November 4, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana. He had a love for trains and would sneak off to the tracks to watch and dream about becoming a conductor; which he fulfilled with the Sumpter Valley Railroad, after retirement. He joined the Air Force after graduating from Mishawaka High, serving his country in the Vietnam War, as an Air Traffic Controller and retiring after 26 years of service. He worked 6 years at the Idaho State Penitentiary before returning to Mtn. Home AFB as a civilian, to finish off his years of employment.

Fred’s love for Christ was deeply seeded in him. He served and held ranks in the Knights of Columbus, and FDM, Past State Deputy from 1991-1993. He loved Mtn. Home and was very involved with the community. With his volunteering as a shuttle driver for his daughter’s Girl Scout Group and events for the Rainbow Girls—Friendship #9, being the Commander of the COP, doing Taxes for the Sr. Citizens Center and at the AFB, assisting with the Red Hat Ladies, and many events at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

Family and friends who were Blessed to know and be a part of Fred’s life will never forget his smile, joyful laughter, love, kindness, compassionate spirit, humor, and willingness to always give a helping hand or prayer partnership. He will be deeply missed.
