Mayoral Race: It’s not over yet!

Mountain Home City Code states that if there are four or more mayoral candidates running in an election, one candidate must get a majority (over 50%) of the total votes cast. The unofficial results from Elmore County Elections Department indicate that no mayor candidate received over 50% of the votes. These results signify that a runoff in the Mayoral race will take place in the next 30 days. A runoff election is a second election with only the top candidates that received the highest number of votes from the previous election that occurred on November 7th.
This runoff election will be organized and overseen by the Elmore County Elections Department. The elections department is working diligently to get ballots ordered and overnighted to our community in hopes for a speedy election process.
Absentee ballots will be accepted by both mail and in-person at the courthouse. Mail-in ballots will need to be requested by the voter. Absentee in-person voting will be open at the Courthouse as soon as the ballots are available in our community. Please note that the Courthouse will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 23rd and 24th.
Per Idaho State Code and City Code, the election must happen within 30 days from the general election. Therefore, the runoff must take place before December 7th. The County is in the process of confirming the election date and a polling location. The City of Mountain Home is working closely with the County and as these dates and locations are confirmed, the city will release that information to the public.
