In Loving Memory of Vern Sanders
NORTON, VA - Vern Sanders, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away on August 11, 2023, at the age of 64 from a courageous battle with Huntington’s disease. He was born in Casper, Wyoming, lived in Oregon and Graduated from Battle Ground High school in Washington. He joined the Air force and spent most of his career stationed in Mountain Home Air Force base and resided in Mountain Home, Idaho for 37 years then moved to Norton Virginia to live out his final days with his family.
Vern dedicated an impressive 26 years of his life to the United States Air Force, serving his country with honor and distinction. He retired as a Master Sergeant, specializing in structural repairs. Vern's commitment to excellence and his unwavering loyalty earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors alike.
Outside his military career, Vern was passionate about being a father. He was active in his children’s classrooms along with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. He loved snow skiing and camping with friends and family and most of all being a Papa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern Dean Sanders, Sr. and Mattie Rose Black Sanders; and two sisters, Rose Gibson and Betty Knudsen.
Vern is survived by his loving family, including his spouse, Tammey Sanders; his children, Scott Sanders, and Kathy Sanders Fleming and her husband Al; grandchildren, Scott Sanders, Jr., Belana Sanders, Nathan Sanders and Zackery Fleming; two sisters, Jeanne Eckardt and Linda Palmer; and close relatives, who will cherish his memory and moments they shared together. As we mourn his loss, let us celebrate Vern's remarkable life and the profound impact he had on those around him.
A private memorial service will be held to honor and pay tribute to Vern Sanders. The inurnment will be at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee.

Vern Sanders, your legacy of service, dedication, and compassion will forever remain etched in our hearts. Rest in peace, beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father and Papa.
