Marilyn Lee Jones
With loved ones by her side, Marilyn Lee Jones, 69, of Boise, Idaho, slipped away peacefully on February 18, 2023. She was born on August 22, 1953, to Mabel and Morris Hill in Langley, Virginia. After growing up in an Air Force family, she graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1972.
The following year she married John Lee Liggett, also of Mountain Home, and together they had three daughters, Michelle, Rachel and Cheryl. Through the years, Marilyn was active in her church volunteering for youth clubs, vacation Bible school, and holding Bible studies in her home. In time, life took a different path for Marilyn and John, and they parted ways.
Some years later, on March 19, 1994, she married Terry Jones after meeting him at Saint Alphonsus Hospital, where they both worked for many years. Doctors and staff members valued her technical support skills, and so did her extremely grateful family. They both retired in 2015.
Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors and traveling to Mexico, Italy, and South Africa. She kayaked, camped, enjoyed sunsets on the Oregon Coast. She was a master at embroidering and sewing, especially quilting. When it came to gardening, her passion was evident in thriving azaleas and rhododendrons, in petunias, geraniums and alyssum spilling out over pots from all corners of the patio.
She fed hummingbirds and squirrels, cared about the little boy around the corner, and the neighborhood cat across the street. She helped refugees. But more than anything Marilyn loved her family, bringing everyone together as the perfect hostess, spreading joy and laughter from Christmas Eve parties to Fourth of July barbecues.
During weeks of hospitalization, she and the medical staff developed close friendships. Nurses and doctors said they had never met anyone like Marilyn. No matter how much pain she was in, no matter how tired she was, she was always kind. Her positive energy impacted everyone in the ICU.
Marilyn's passion to make a difference and love deeply came from a strong relationship with Jesus. Through many joys and trials, her foundation remained in Christ, and there is peace knowing she is at rest in His arms.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Terry, of 29 years; her children and grandchildren: Michelle Carper (husband Curtis and daughters Abigail, Emma, and
Cassey, and son Colton); Rachel Duncan (son Austun Liggett); Cheryl Knobel (daughter Devany Zortman); Stepsons Dylan Jones (wife Andi and son Keegan) and Shawn Taylor (son Michael). Her siblings: brother Rick Hill (wife Toni and daughter Angie Bruce); sister Sandy Friedly (husband Jay and daughter Amanda Balderrama and son Michael Covey); and brother Robert Hill (daughter Kayla Williams).
