Library Board Meeting 2-2-23
February’s Libary Board meeting saw the addition of some new faces to the board.
Trustees Jake Aplin and Christina Mattern officially accepted their positions following their selection by Mayor Rich Sykes. The two were selected out of nine total applicants. Following the acceptances, the board proceeded to select their new chair and vice-chair.
Chairperson Mercado and the rest of the board voted unanimously that Samantha Venable-Harjo be appointed as the new Chairperson. It was also decided that vice-chair Sisson will remain as the vice-chair. Lastly, Christina Mattern was appointed as the board’s new secretary/treasurer.
Library Director Shasta Hochstrasser then updated the board on a proposed non-resident library card fee update. Ultimately a new, reduced fee was approved unanimously.
The board was then given an update on the library’s proposed capital improvement plan for 2024. Trustee Mercado felt that the number noted on the proposed plan was higher than he believed should be brought before the Mountain Home City Council. Director Hochstrasser noted that the plan is tentative and not in its final form, rather it is a living document in its first stages. She also noted that some of the projects could potentially have their cost offset by grants.
Following this, Director Hochstrasser excitedly shared that 10 storywalk panels have been installed, and 10 more are expected to be shipped soon. She also noted that due to the length of some of the stories, she hopes to acquire more panels and more sponsorships in the future.
After general event updates, the board adjourned.
