George Patrick Shields

George Patrick Shields, age 81, of Mountain Home, passed away at home on July 2, 2022, with his loving wife Patti by his side. No services will be held per George’s request. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

George was the eldest of 5 children born to Francis and Grace (Muchler) Shields in Dallas, Pennsylvania on January 16, 1941. He graduated from Westmoreland High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1963 serving on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt in Vietnam. George worked for many years at the Dept. of Defense Depot in Tracy, California. After moving to Mountain home, George came out of retirement to work in the maintenance department at Walmart.

George loved camping, fishing and exploring the great outdoors. He could often be seen trolling along the Snake River with his best buddy “Jack” his border collie.

He was a “real people person” loving to share a smile and a good joke or story with friends and neighbors.

George is survived by his wife Patricia “Patti” Shields of Mountain home, daughter Tracy (Eric) Wittenbel of California, son Scott Shields of Pennsylvania, and grandson Nathan Wittenbel of California along with many loving nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania.

George is preceded in death by both his parent, two brothers and two sisters.
