Larry Cornell Hammett
Larry Cornell Hammett, age 85, of Mountain Home, passed away at his daughter’s home in Montana on March 30, 2022. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 10:00AM, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Arrangements are under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Larry was born to Cornell B. and Bertha Jerdon Hammett on April 28, 1936 in Olmsted, Illinois. He attended Gore School in Olmsted and Mounds City Community High School.
He entered the US Air Force May 15, 1954. July 15, 1958, he married Susan Groves, the love of his life. Larry served at Robins AFB, Georgia (twice), Pease AFB, New Hampshire, Charleston AFB, South Carolina, Philippines, Cannon AFB, New Mexico and Mountain Home AFB, Idaho where he retired in January 1975.
Larry and Susan had two children, Cornell Martin and Margaret Lea. Larry worked for the Mountain Home School District and retired in 1998. After retirement Larry loved to travel and spend time with his family. Larry never met a stranger, so he had many friends and loved them all.
Larry is survived by his son Marty Hammett, daughter Margaret (Duane) Bauer, granddaughter Amanda (Jonathan) Bowman, grandson Larry Bauer, and great-grandchildren Timothy “TJ”, Mackenzie, Vera and Hunter Bowman, his brother William Hammett, and his loyal canine, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Susan and sister Dixie Hammett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry's name can be sent to the VA Cemetery (Boise), Shriners Hospital for children, Christian & Baptist Church (Mtn. Home) or your favorite charity.
