In the late fall and early winter months there is an insect that seems to congregate around homes in Idaho. This quite large true bug (Order: Hemiptera) can be quite scary to some, especially if you find them on the outside or heaven forbid inside of your house.
The western conifer seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann, is a leaf-footed bug (Family: Coreidae) with a maximum length of ¾”. The expansions on the hind tibia help identify this brown, white and cream-colored insect as a leaf-footed bug.
