Betty Whitman
Betty Whitman, 89 of Mountain Home, Idaho died in her home with her family by her side on June 12, 2021.
Betty was born November 9, 1931 in London England to William and Ada (Dallaston) Bowers. She grew up in London where some of her early years were during World War II. Every evening as the bombers came over London, the sirens would go off and her and her family went to the bomb shelters. Eventually the bombings became so bad Betty and her sisters were evacuated to the countryside near Cornwall.
Betty did many things during younger years which included modelling and one of her favorites was an usher at the London Paramount Theater where she saw many celebrities. In 1952 she met a young American Airman, Earl Whitman. Between Earl’s Air Force career travels and Betty’s reluctance it only took three years for her to realize he was the one. As an Air Force bride, Betty travelled to North Dakota, Holland, Alabama, and Idaho where they made their home. She took a job at the El Rancho Restaurant and there she made some of the best friends of her lifetime. She eventually left that job and focused on enjoying golf as a member of the Mountain Home Ladies Golf Association. She loved all the ladies on her Tuesday and Thursday leagues. They could always count on Betty to have snacks for everyone. Betty was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile where they made items to donate to the Shrine Hospitals.
Anyone that knew Betty knew that she loved a good joke. Her humor was second to none and that kept her playful and youthful all of her life.
Betty and Earl spent a wonderful 65 years together travelling with their golf friends, participating in the Tin Lizzie parades and making great memories with their family.
Betty is survived by her husband, Earl, daughter Lisa (Russell) Anderson, daughter-in-law, Sharon Whitman, grandsons: Matthew (Jenni) Anderson, Nicholas (Jiselle) Anderson, Russell Whitmen, Christopher Whitman and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Whitman, her parents and her three older sisters, Esme, Joan, and Pauline.
Betty’s life was full of love and laughter and our hearts are heavy without her but we were all so blessed to have had her in our lives and our lives are better for it.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in Betty's memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Fairfax Road at Virginia, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
