Mountain Home Talkin’ Tigers win all three debate events at District Debate
The Mountain Home Talkin’ Tigers won all three forms of Debate at the February 28 District 4 Tournament at Wood River High School. In addition, The Talkin’ Tigers qualified a total of eight students to the March 13-14 State Debate Tournament at Boise High School.
Junior Oam Patel continued his dominance in Lincoln Douglas Debate with a perfect 5-0 performance at Districts. Patel, who was in the top 25 in the country last year in the National Tournament in Lincoln Douglas Debate, will be one of the favorites to win the state title this year.
Korbin Peterson lead a 1-2-3 sweep by Mountain Home in Congressional Debate. Peterson, a Junior, was District Champion while Miya Ingram was second and Hailie Goldthorpe, a novice debater was third. Mercedez Mason, Liv Peter and Mikey Nordin also qualified to state. Unfortunately, Ingram will not be able to attend the state event, but The Talkin’ Tigers will be well represented with five entries in Congressional Debate.
The team of Khylan Stubblefield and Zachary Warren were District Champions in Public Forum Debate. Stubblefield, a sophomore and Warren, a junior, were a perfect 5-0 at the district tournament.
In addition, the team of Edward Blake and Lillian Nhok are alternates while Kayden Reid is an alternate in Lincoln Douglas Debate.
