Elmore County Republicans hold Lincoln Day Banquet

The yearly dinner had a full house with dinner tickets selling out days before the event.

The Elmore County Republican Committee held their Annual Lincoln Day Banquet and Auction on Feb. 29 at the Elks Lodge.

This year many of the county and district wide elected officer’s positions are available, so during the dinner service each candidate got up and had a chance to get up and introduce themselves and give a quick plug for why voters should choose them in the May Primary. All of them were warned by MC Mike Hollinshead that anyone who went over the two minute speaking limit would be charged $50 and if you were ‘deep pocketed’ enough speaking for five minutes would cost $100. To our knowledge no one exceeded the two minute mark.

The money earned throughout the night goes to the Committee’s scholarship fund which they use to send children to learn more about the Constitution. The number of youth who get the experience varies from year to year with as many as five going on one recent occasion to three children a different year.

The live auction of items, some patriotic and some just fun, went well into the evening adding to the ever growing scholarship fund. It was an entertaining evening and gave everyone in attendance a chance to put faces to names of the office hopefuls and let everyone know a little bit more about where each of them comes from and why they were choosing to run for office.
