Brackett introduces wolf legislation

Wednesday, January 29, 2020

Dear Friends,

Last Wednesday, Jan. 22, I introduced legislation that would establish “Chronic Depredation” zones and “Wolf Free” zones. Senate Bill S1247 can be viewed by clicking here. These zones are comprised of big game management units as designated by the Idaho Fish & Game Commission. “Wolf Free” zones are located south of the Snake River or I-84. “Chronic Depredation” zones are big game management units that have confirmed livestock depredation in at least four of the last five calendar years. In both designations, wolves could be taken year-round by any hunter that has a valid hunting license and a wolf tag. Livestock depredation remains at an unacceptably high level. More needs to be done because ranchers’ livelihood is being threatened by wolves.
