Long- time Mountain Home residents, Kenneth and Julie Hansen will receive final memorial services on September 26, 2018 at 1 o’ clock at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
Julie and Ken moved to Mountain Home in 1962 as Kenneth’s last duty station before retiring in 1965. They worked at a variety of business adventure during their many years together.
From humble beginnings as an upholsterer which Julie learned from a mail order ad, to major contracts with the military which allowed them to buy land and build apartment buildings and business offices on Airbase Road, Julie and Ken were some original DIY entrepreneurs in the community. In the early 90s Julie built her proudest achievement, the German House Restaurant. There she made many friends from around the world and hosted friends and strangers alike with her German hospitality and fine German cuisine.
Kenneth passed in 1997 which left Julie alone to run her apartments and the restaurant until she broke her hip in 2015 which prompted her unfortunate retirement from the restaurant and a more quiet life with her son Wilhelm and daughter in law Debbie Hansen. During her rehabilitation it was discovered that she had cancer. After three years of courageous struggles with her disease, she died peacefully with her family by her bedside in her home.
Julianna is survived by her son and his wife Debbie Hansen: granddaughter, Erin Liedtke and her husband Jeremy and four great-grandchildren; and granddaughter Amy Nordby and grandson Adam Mabbutt. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law in Germany, Victoria and Heindl Beismann as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Smith and his nurses and the wonderful staff at MSTI who gave Julie such excellent treatment and Harrison’s Hope Hospice, Peggy, Heather, Genelle, and Ginger and other unsung heroes during her transition from this life.
Memorial Graveside Services will be Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, ID.
