Robert (Bob) Merritt
CMSgt. (Retired) Robert (Bob) R. Merritt passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of January 30, 2018 with family at his side.
He was born on May 29, 1932 to Charles and Pauline Merritt in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada, 1 of 7 children. The family moved from Canada to Lima, New York after the fall harvest in 1935, where he resided and helped on the farm.
December 30, 1950 he joined the United States Air Force, which took him on tours and stationed him in places like Washington State, Texas, and Korea. He achieved many certificates, awards and medals during his service in the USAF. Mountain Home, Idaho was his last station and where he retired after 30 years of service. In Mountain Home he bought some land, raised horses, cattle, pigs, and did custom haying for folks with small lots.
He served on the board of Directors for 20 years at Pioneer Federal Credit Union, was a member of the American Legion Post #26, and VFW.
In 1986 he married Linda and gained two more children David Roberts and Loretta Runyan to go with his current children, Chuck Merritt, Laura Holmes, and Joan McMurtery. He has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life, with military honors, will be held at Mountain View Cemetery’s Committal Shelter, on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
