Courtney Garrett
Courtney C. Garrett, of Mountain Home, passed away peacefully Oct. 12, 2017 with her husband by her side.
Courtney was born on July 28, 1967 in Roseville, California to Phil and Kathleen McNicol. Courtney graduated from Fort Bragg High School in 1985 and enrolled in Sierra College in Auburn, California.
In 1987 Courtney joined the U.S. Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Later she became a Crew Chief, Ground Radar Technician and First Sergeant.
Courtney served a total of 24 years in the military deploying 3 times during Desert Storm, 1 time during Iraqi Freedom, volunteering during Hurricane Katrina Relief and serving nearly 4 years as First Sergeant.
Courtney retired as a Master Sergeant on Aug. 31, 2011. Her accomplishments include 12 military decorations and 2005 IDANG First Sergeant of the Year. Courtney was an expert shooter of the M9 and M16. She put it to good use during hunting season and can boast a black bear and 6 point elk.
Not only did Courtney serve her country, she served her local community as well.
Courtney was a member of the Elmore County Planning and Zoning Committee for 7 years and the President of the St James Historical Church Preservation Committee for over 10 years. She always had a passion for politics and in 2012 ran for Elmore County Commissioner.
Courtney longed for a child and on Aug. 1, 2008 she became a mother to daughter Isabella. On Sept. 15, 2016 Courtney married Rob Garrett in Mountain Home.
Courtney enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, horses, camping and watching Survivor. Courtney described herself as feisty, outspoken, powerful and controversial.
She is survived by her husband, Rob and daughter Bella, brother Judd and Renee of Nampa, half brother Ethan and Britney of Elko, Nevada, and five nieces.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
