Edwin R. Schlender
Edwin R. Schlender, of Mountain Home, passed away quietly at his home, on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the age of 80. Services will be held at a later date in Malta, Idaho. Cremation is under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
Ed served in the US Air Force as a young man, stationed in Japan. Coming home, he attended Idaho State University and Weber State University, graduating with a degree in electronic engineering. During his career he worked for the Bonneville Power Administration, Elmhurst Mutual Power and Light in Tacoma, Washington, and retired as General Manager / CEO of Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative in Port Orford, Oregon.
He is survived by his brother, E. Lee Schlender, also of Mountain Home; sister Jane Lines of Nielton, Washington; daughters Marie Schlender, Teresa and (son-in-law) Paul Masica, and Diana Schlender of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Jake Masica, Jessica Masica, and Nate Schlender of Phoenix, former wife Maureen Ward-Schlender of Phoenix, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ed is also survived by his longtime friend and companion Barbara Forrest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin C. and Linda Schlender, and his youngest daughter Sandra Schlender.
Ed was an avid fisherman and hunter, and did beautiful woodworking. He did all of the finish work and wiring in his home in Mountain Home, enjoying every minute of it. Using their aircraft, Ed and Lee fished and hunted throughout the Northwest, including the back country of Idaho and British Columbia, Canada.
