The Ice House sat next to the underpass. Ice cut from the Mountain Home Reservoir was taken to the Ice House and in turn would be delivered to homes for use in ice boxes. Before refrigerators were invented Ice boxes were used to keep food cool. This area of town was later cleared for the widening of the underpass. For more information about the early days of Mountain Home visit the Mountain Home Historical Museum at 180 S. 3rd E. St. Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
