Suspect in shooting identified
Elmore County Sheriff Mike Hollinshead identified the man that was shot and killed by local law enforcement during an incident in Mountain Home on Monday.
Aaron M. Thompson, 31, died following a confrontation with a Mountain Home police officer and an Elmore County sheriff's deputy after they were called to the Rose Garden Trailer Park on the city's north side following reports of a man with a gun in the area.
Hollinshead said that Thompson was "not unknown" to city police and the sheriff's office and has an extensive criminal past dating back more than 10 years. Information from the Idaho State Judiciary indicates that he has prior arrests for assault and battery, attacking a law enforcement officer, disturbing the peace and exhibiting a deadly weapon.
The suspect's name was released to the media after the Mountain Home News went to press on Tuesday. Information on the incident appears in the May 24 edition of the newspaper.
