Rec district board faces recall effort

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

For the second time in two years, a group of local residents are spearheading an effort to recall two Western Elmore County Recreation District directors.

The recall petition was submitted to the Elmore County Clerk on April 17 with that document approved "as to form" by county officials a week later.

A group of concerned citizens known as the Friends for Recreation, submitted the recall petition with the stated purpose to remove Judy Mayne and Art Nelson, the district's only seated board members, from those positions.

    Response by Brenda Fincher, Publisher, Mountain Home News:
    Some of the names that are identified in the article in this weeks Mountain Home News specifically are Betty Ashcraft, Jim Bird, Misty Sommer and Vivian Meyer. I am sure at their signature collecting positions they can update their group participants.

    Wonder who all signed this petition. I asked around with some of the people I know and no one saw it or was even asked if they wanted to sign it. I remember the problems in obtaining enough valid signatures in the past when dissolution of the district was proposed. I just find it strange that (1) not many have seen or even heard of the petition, (2) that this group had no problem getting signatures and (3) that one of those names used to be a paid employee of the district under the past board. Has anyone seen this petition?

    Second verse same as the first;

    When life gives you lemons, I'm sure that the "Friends of Recreation" could use some to suck on. Sour faces and small minds.
