Tigers pounce during 30-14 win over Cougars
Seeking a win throughout the regular season, Mountain Home's offense roared to life as the Tigers pummeled the visiting Caldwell Cougars during a 30-14 win on Friday.
Caldwell was the first to get on the scoreboard as the Cougars completed an eight-yard run with 52 seconds left in the opening quarter. The Tigers blocked the point-after kick to leave the score 0-6.
Quarterback Michael Campbell tied the score on a three-yard run with 7:24 remaining in the second quarter. Jose Pedroza gave the Tigers the lead after making the point-after kick.
Mountain Home extended its lead with two seconds left in the half after Campbell ran to the Cougars 34 yard line before making a larteral pass to Chris Wright, who ran in the ball for the touchdown. Pedroza made the extra point to give the Tigers a 14-6 lead at the half.
The Tigers continued to dominate the field in the third with Wright completing a 38-yard run with 6:12 to go in the third. Pedroza went three-for-three after completing the point-after kick to give Mountain Home a 21-6 advantage.
Taking advantage of the running plays, the Tigers once again scored with 2:32 to go in the third as Campbell scored on a five-yard play. During the point-after kick, the Cougars managed to block the attempt, leaving Mountain Home with a commanding 27-6 lead.
The Tigers made their final score with 6:14 left in the final quarter as Pedroza successfully booted a 34-yard field goal to extend the lead, 30-6. The Cougars attempted to steal Mountain Home's thunder during a successful 12-yard pass into the endzone.
Caldwell capatalized on a two-point conversion to chip away at Mountain Home's lead, but time ran out with the Tigers finishing senior night with their first win of the season.
Mountain Home dominated the field with 348 yards of total offense off 64 plays. Caldwell stuttered with 260 yards of offense from 47 plays that evening.
The Tigers had better luck on its passing game with Campbell completing two of six attempts while the Cougars succeeded with four of their 11 tries.
Mountain Home also led on rushing with 309 yards on 58 plays. Caldwell accumulated 209 yards on 36 attempts.
Wright led the Tigers with 113 yards of total rushing on 11 plays. Esmer Castillo added 102 yards for the Tigers on 20 attempts while Campbell added 81 yards on 21 attempts.
Kyler Proffit led the Tigers' defense with six tackles, including four solo attempts. Mitch Aguirre was credited with four tackles, including two solo tackles, while Wright, Pedroza and Jonathan Kaiser were each credited with 3 1/2 tackles that included three solo attempts and one assist.
Penalties cost both teams critical yardage during the game with Mountain Home after seven flags cost them 52 yards. Caldwell had nine penalties leveled against the team that led to a total loss of 74 yards.
