Tigers' cross country team competes at Firman Invite
Runners representing Mountain Home area schools earned individual honors with some walking away with personal records following their appearance at the Bob Firman Invitational on Sept. 24.
Held at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, the event brought together teams representing high varsity and junior varsity teams in addition to younger middle school squads.
Anthony DeSantis was Mountain Home High School's sole men's runner, completing the 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes, 58.6 seconds, to set a personal record. In the men's junior varsity 5,000, Kyle Pendleton finished 63rd overall at 19:09.5 while Jordan Klein was the 109th runner to cross the finish line at 19:52.1.
Mountain Home had two freshmen in the 5,000 meter. Jacob Criddle finished eighth overall at 17:26.1 to set a personal record that afternoon. Meanwhile, Ethan Ingram trailed at 19:35.6 to cross the line at 78th place while also setting his own personal best.
In the boy's 3,000-meter middle school race, Mountain Home finished 11th overall with 362 points. Salmon was first at 72, with teams from Melba and Sugar-Salem rounding out the top three.
Korbin Peterson was the first Mountain Home middle school athlete to finish the race at 11:56.8. Landon Georgianna set a personal record at 11:59.9 with William Pendleton setting his own personal best at 12:21.3. Kaydan Winings rounded out the boys team at 12:34.9.
In the women's 5,000-meter varsity race, Mountain Home finished 38th overall. Teams from Davis, Rocky Mountain and American Fork finished in the top three that day.
Alexis Georgianna broke a school record at 21 minutes, 26.8 seconds while finishing 104th overall.
In the middle school 3,000-meter girls race, Mountain Home was second overall with 125 points. The Tigers trailed North Boise, which finished with 108 points with Salmon finishing third at 141.
Rachel Lampman was 13th overall, posting an official time of 12 minutes, 6.1 seconds. Hannah Brown was 24th at 12:21.0 while Charlize Lawson followed at 12:24.8. Other runners in the women's middle school race included Kasey Derrick at 12:51.0, Kyasia Sanders at 13:04.6 and Olivia Huffman at 13:50.8.
The Tigers' cross country team was at Valivue on Thursday to compete at the Gary Ward Classic. They return home this Friday as they host the Mountain Home Invitational.
They close out the regular season Oct. 13 as they travel to Elko, Nev., for the Elko Invitational. Post season action starts Oct. 27 during the District 4A cross country tournament at Eagle Island State Park with the state tournament set for Oct. 29 in Poctatello.
