Tigers football team falls to Ridgevue
After taking a three-point lead early in the first quarter, the Mountain Home Tigers saw it quickly vanish as they fell to Ridgevue on Friday.
Jose Pedroza put Mountain Home on the scoreboard just under nine minutes in the first quarter off a 42-yard field goal. With 6:13 left on the clock, the Warhawks completed a 25-yard run into the endzone with the two-point conversion falling short.
Ridgevue extended its lead to 11 with 1:10 left in the opening quarter off a 29-yard pass play followed by a successful two-point conversion.
The Tigers roared back early in the second quarter after quarterback Michael Campbell completed a one-yard run. Pedroza's successful point-after try narrowed Mountain Home's deficit to four points with Ridgevue leading, 14-10.
The Warhawks continued to claw away the Tigers' defense. A 60-yard pass gave Ridgevue its third touchdown with 9:36 left in the first half with the successful two-point conversion extending its lead, 20-10.
Ridgevue posted its fourth touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the half on a two-yard pass. With the Tigers thwarting the two-point conversion, the Warhawks continued to dominate the scoreboard, 26-10, at halftime.
Mountain Home regrouped in the third quarter as Campbell completed a one-yard run into the endzone with 2:10 remaining. He then ran in the two-point conversion with the Tigers still trailing, 18-26.
Ridgevue put the game out of reach with 49 seconds left in regulation play off a 38-yard pass play. With the successful point-after kick, the Warhawks came away with the 33-18 win.
The Tigers finished the evening with 264 yards of total offense from 55 plays. In comparison, the Warhawks racked up 380 yards on 49 plays.
Campbell went 1-5 on completed passes for 36 yards. Ridgeview's quarterback had more success on the pass plays with seven completions on 13 attempts for 188 yards.
Chris Wright led the Tigers on total rushing with 97 yards on 13 attempts. Esmer Castillo added 94 yards on 18 attempts for Mountain Home with Campbell rushing for 32 yards on 16 attempts.
Walker Harris was credited with Mountain Home's sole reception for 36 yards. On defense, Kyler Proffit had three solo tackles along with two assists.
The Tigers head to Vallivue on Friday as they face the Falcons at 7 p.m. They return home to Tiger Field against the Skyview Hawks during this year's homecoming on Sept. 30.
While the varsity Tigers continue to seek a win this season, the junior varsity squad extended its season record to 3-1. Mountain Home's JV team returns home this Thursday, Sept. 22, as they face Vallivue with a 7 p.m. game time at Tiger Field.
