County resident tests positive for West Nile virus
An Elmore County woman has tested positive for West Nile virus, becoming the first person in the state to contract the disease this year.
According to an advisory released by the Central District Health Department on Friday, the woman, who was reported to be in her 30s, is at home recovering from the virus.
It's not known at this time where the woman contracted the disease. According to Christine Myron, a spokesperson with the state health agency, it's possible that the woman contracted the virus within Elmore County since she hadn't traveled outside of the county recently.
So far this year, mosquitoes tested in the county have shown no signs of the virus. However, Myron emphasized that the sampling of mosquitoes tested to date represent a small percentage of insects within the county.
