License fees make no sense
Dear editor,
I have driven a Toyota Prius since 2010 and have continually received great gas mileage -- around 50 miles per gallon. When I last renewed my Idaho license plates in 2014, the cost was $85.50 for two years.
I recently received my Idaho license plate renewal notice in the mail and was surprised to see that it will cost me $256 to renew my Idaho license plate for two years. Because of a law our Idaho legislators passed in July of 2015, there is now a hybrid fee added to the Idaho license plate renewal fees.
If you drive a hybrid vehicle with Idaho plates, it will cost you an additional $75 for a one-year renewal or an additional $150 for a two-year renewal. I am sounding off because I don't understand why people who drive hybrid vehicles are being punished for being conservative.
I think our Idaho legislators got it wrong. They should punish those who drive vehicles that use a lot of gas and are very wasteful. I suppose next, we will be taxed for using less water, or watching free TV.
