He was born on May 7, 1914, in a sod house in King Hill and raised in Glenns Ferry. He graduated from Glenns Ferry High School in 1934.
Lester ran the mile race in a fast 4 minutes and 48 seconds. He married Elva Waters in 1957, and they had three children, Russel, Stephen and Diana.
He retired in 1978 from the Union Pacific Railroad after 43 years of service. While employed with the railroad and afterward, he worked for several local ranchers for over 60 years.
He was known throughout the area for breaking horses. Although he broke horses and rode almost daily, he was only bucked off twice in his entire life.
Lester could frequently be seen running wild horses south of Glenns Ferry and taking care of cows south of Indian Cove. He lived in Glenns Ferry until 2002 when he moved to Gooding and in 2007 moved to Bliss to his daughter and son in-law's ranch.
Lester McAnulty is survived by his sons Russel (Kathy) McAnulty and Stephen (Jo Vette) McAnulty, daughter Diana (Daniel) Butler, grandchildren Colleen Krause, Danika Bauman, Dustin McAnulty, David Butler, Dale Butler and Demsie Butler. There are three great-grandchildren: Justin Krause, Courtney Krause and Stacia Bauman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
The family would like to thank the amazing, caring staff and owners of Stonebridge Assisted Living and Alliance Hospice for their wonderful end of life care.
