Elsie was born in Mountain Home on April 4, 1923, to George A. Aulbach and Marjorie (Galindo) Aulbach. She was the oldest of five children and the only girl.
At an early age, she was stricken with polio and spent a couple years in Montana to help with her recovery. It had a lifelong effect on her left leg, but it never slowed her down from having a long full life.
Back in Mountain Home, Elsie helped raise her four younger brothers and continued her studies. She graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1943 and shortly thereafter started working at Mountain Home Air Force Base as a civilian for the Bomber Squadron.
There, she met her husband, Norman F. Brown, and they were married in Mountain Home on Aug. 20, 1949. Shortly thereafter, they were stationed in Washington D.C. While in Washington D.C., they had their first of three children, and when Norman was sent to Korea, Elsie and her son moved back to Mountain Home to be closer to family.
In Mountain Home, Elsie worked at La Mode Cleaners, and when Norman returned, she gave birth to two more children, both daughters.
They settled down in Mountain Home and raised their three children. They were both very active with the church and community.
As they got older, Elsie and Norman enjoyed traveling. They took a trip to Rome and took their motor home all over the United States. They made many lifelong friends throughout their travels.
They had a trip to Alaska planned, but Norman passed away before they were able to go. Elsie continued to travel with other family members, making trips to Las Vegas, Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. She also loved getting out for a simple drive to the mountains or an occasional trip to Jackpot.
Elsie continued to be active in the community and the Catholic Church. She was active as an American War Mother and helping with Knights of Columbus events. She was also active with the Royal Neighbors of America, the Elks, the Grange and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Elsie is survived by her son, Norman G. Brown of Glendale, Ariz.; daughter Marie Dominick of Santee, Calif.; brother Russell Aulbach of Mountain Home; and six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman F. Brown, her parents, her brothers Donald, George, Everett Aulbach and her daughter, Darlene Morton.
Memorials in Elsie's name can be sent to Knights of Columbus #3703, 965 McKenna Dr., Mountain Home, ID 83647.
