Lady Tiger picked for state's squad
A member of Mountain Home High School's Lady Tigers soccer team was recently selected to represent the state during a regional-level competition scheduled for early next year.
Asia Jackson, who started her freshman year on the Lady Tigers' varsity squad, was one of 18 players selected for the Idaho State U15 Girls Olympic Development team.
Selected amongst the best players in Idaho in her age group, she will be compete against the top players in the Western region during the Region IV ODP Championships, scheduled for January in Phoenix. Those who qualify at that level will go on to play at the National ODP Championships in February.
She is the daughter of John and Len Jackson of Mountain Home.
"To be selected amongst this group is a outstanding achievement in one's soccer career," said John Jackson, who also serves as her club coach. "Asia has work extremely hard over the last several years and this was one of her goals to make the State ODP roster."
The selection process wasn't easy, her father added. There were more than 60 players from across the state that were competing for those 18 slots on the team.
Asia started playing soccer when she was seven years old and plays club soccer for the ReAL Boise Soccer Club in Boise. At the start of the school year, she joined the Lady Tigers' varsity team as its only freshman player.
In addition to school and family, her passion is playing soccer, she said. After high school, she's setting her sights on attending Gonzaga University to major in sports medicine in addition to playing soccer for the Lady Zags.
