The Mountain Home Police Department won top honors during a "Spooktacular" Halloween decorating contest hosted by the Mountain Home News.
Over the past two weeks, the newspaper received five nominations from the community highlighting various indoor and outdoor seasonal decorations.
People across the community were then invited to vote on which place deserved the "Spooktacular" title.
More than 400 people voted over the past week on the newspaper's Web site and its Facebook page. The city police department won the contest by a 60-vote margin over a home on Northwest Pintail Street.
The police department won a six month subscription for the Mountain Home News and two passes to Friday's cemetery tour hosted by the Mountain Historical Museum -- an event narrated by members from Mountain Home High School's theater company.
Rogena Breaux from the Mountain Home Police Department said that kids and families are welcome to come into the department for some early trick-or-treating and to view the winning decorations during normal operating hours.
By the end of September 2016, residents should start planning for next year's "Spooktacular" Halloween Decorating Contest. The newspaper is hoping this inaugural community event will expand with separate categories and more prizes for the winners.
Is anyone thinking about a Christmas lighting contest yet? The newspaper is.
