Hobart Essick
Hobart Lee Essick, 72 of Mountain Home, passed away peacefully at 2:32 a.m., surrounded by his family, on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at a Boise hospital.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.
Hobart was born in Springfield, Mo., to Harve and Ellen Essick. He attended school in Gooding and Pingree and graduated from Pocatello High School. He attended vocational engineering school and graduated in 1970.
He went to work at the U.S. Forrest Service as a Forrest Service Tech Engineer in 1971. His primary duties were designing roads and excavation.
Hobart married his soulmate, Valarie Cook, in 1965. Together, they had two children, Lorraine and Katie.
They were together for 12 years. Hobart and Valarie lived in Pocatello, Garden Valley and Boise. Hobart later hung his hat and resided in Mountain Home, where they remained soul mates.
He was very much a Christian who was baptized by Pastor Munn at the First Southern Baptist Church in Pocatello.
Hobart was an avid outdoorsman. He was also intensely passionate about taking video and photographs of his family and the outdoors. In hand, he was a traveler of back roads, bi-roads, and trail scenery.
He was an accomplished cook with great taste. Hobart also had a passion for genealogy.
Hobart is survived by Valarie Cook; his children, Lorraine Essick and Katie Hillman; his sister Bertha Ellen Blackburn; six grandchildren, Scott Riggs, Kathryn Malmin, Kristina Malmin, Joie Alvord, Auston Alvord and Rainee Hillman; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bud Essick, and sister Eileen Essick Carey.
