A group of about 20 individuals gathered July 8 in Mountain Home to discuss ongoing petition drive that, if successful, would dissolve a local taxing district.

The meeting was hosted by a group called "Stop the Madness" that recently created the petition that, if it gains enough signatures is asking voters to decide whether to keep the Western Elmore County Recreation District or to do away with the organization.

Ironic that since the town hall meeting held by the WECRD board, they have been seemingly silent. Sure they have held events but most of the events have been held during times when most taxpayers have had to work. All they have been is a repeat of the pep rally town hall meeting with very little questions answered. What supporters of the WECRD there are have resorted to bullying tactics and insults. When confronted to provide bona-fide facts, these supporters disappear and rarely return to the debate. While I fully believe the community could benefit from a community center, I do not feel that the current path of serving 10% of the community will succeed IF it is ever built. Oh but wait, the WECRD is close, just as close as they were 15 years ago.
