Ramona Chockley
Ramona Rose Chockley, age 63, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with lung cancer, passed away peacefully Friday, May 29, 2015, in Seaside, Ore., surrounded by family. Ramona was a long-time resident of Mountain Home, Idaho, and for the last year resided in Hillsboro, Ore.
Ramona was born April 2, 1952 in Boise, Idaho, to Charles "Bud" and Marie Robbins. As a baby, Ramona suffered from various illnesses and consequently was cared for and ultimately raised by her Grandmother, Shalata Louise Bush, and her grandfather (granddad), Alfred Charles Bay. Ramona was a strong, resilient woman who, from infancy through death, faced many hardships in her life with unwavering courage and strength.
Although she lived most of her life in Idaho, Ramona also lived a few years in the Philippines and in the states of Missouri and Illinois. She was a hard worker and held various jobs throughout her life.
Prior to her retirement in the fall of 2013, Ramona worked for almost 20 years at St. Luke's Elmore Medical Center as a CNA and later as an Activities Coordinator. Ramona took tremendous pride in her work caring for others as she built lasting relationships with those whom she served, cared for and worked with.
Though generally a very quiet and private person, Ramona had a great love for the family and friends who were very close to her. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Accordingly, in light of her desire to maintain strong family bonds and to continue with righteous endeavors, in June 2014, Ramona was baptized and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ramona is survived by her four daughters: Misty Loewen of Bremerton, Wash.; Jennifer Kroft (Suda) of Minot, N.D.; Lindsey Krohn (Kelly) of Providence, Utah; and Patricia Chockley (Shauntay Toombs) of Hillsboro, Ore.; and eight grandchildren: Emily, Andrew, Azariah, Jimmy, Keelie, Gareth, Ethan and Elisabeth.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and recently her loving partner of 23 years, Antonio Ponce.
Our family wishes to extend a very special thanks to the caring staff at Mountain States Tumor Institute in Boise, Idaho as well as those at Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center in Hillsboro, Ore., for the treatment and heartfelt care they provided to our Mother.
Additionally, we are forever grateful for Joey, Jennifer and Cindy from Lower Columbia Hospice Care for the tender love and care they offered during this difficult time. Also, we wish to thank Caldwell's Funeral and Cremation Mortuary of Seaside, Ore. Memorials can be made in memory of Ramona Rose Chockley to a cancer research charity of your choice.
