Robert Schamber
Retired Col. Robert A. "Curly" Schamber of Glenns Ferry, 90, died on Feb. 18, 2015. With his family at his side, he passed away peacefully knowing he is loved and will be missed.
Robert was the eldest son of Arthur R. And Mabel C. (Hanson) Schamber. Curly was a pilot in the Air Force for almost 30 years, where he flew aircraft in World War II, the Berlin Airlift, Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1973 as Deputy Commander from Mountain Home Air Force Base.
His family settled in Glenns Ferry where Curly served as a board member for the King Hill Irrigation District for many years. He also managed the local airport and under his leadership and writing grants; the facility was transformed from dirt airstrip to the paved, lighted runway that today bears his name.
He is survived by his wife, Pat of 61 years; his two daughters, Heidi Woodhead and Holly McMullen and their families; and his sister, Joan Thompson.
His memorial service will be held at the Glenns Ferry VFW Hall, Post #3646 on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. followed by a graveside inurnment, with full military honors, at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home.
