Lady Tigers drop 3 more
The undermanned Lady Tigers played hard but lost three more conference basketball games last week.
Kuna 53, Mountain Home 25
Down to just seven players due to injuries, the Lady Tigers dropped a 53-25 conference basketball game at Kuna on Jan. 13.
Mountain Home trailed, 20-8, after a quarter. A meager three-point second quarter made the deficit, 35-11, at the half but extended to 49-17 after three.
Missy Jessup led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 12 points. Whitney Sandberg added nine points, and Alexis Juarez had four points.
Caldwell 54, Mountain Home 32
Mountain Home ran into a hot-shooting Caldwell team Thursday night when the team lost to the Lady Cougars, 54-32, in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium at Mountain Home High School.
The visiting Lady Cougars hit four, three-point shots in the first quarter on their way to a 20-11 lead. They used their height inside to increase their lead to 31-19 at the half.
Mountain Home was able to get only one of 14 shots to fall in the third quarter, as the Lady Cougars extended their lead to 47-21 after three.
The Lady Tigers hit double figures in scoring in the fourth, but it was too-little, too-late, as they fell to Caldwell.
Ladys Tiger basketball coach Brent Keener thought the game was closer than the final score indicated.
"I honestly didn't expect Caldwell to shoot that well," he said. "I know they've been playing a lot better, but they haven't shot the ball like that. I don't think they've made that many 'threes' in a game all year. I'd be very surprised if they did, but they sure made quite a few tonight We played okay in stretches. Our issue is those stretches aren't long enough -- they're not even close to long enough -- so it makes it tough."
Missy Jessup led Mountain Home in scoring with 13 points. Venessa Sabol had a good night, scoring eight points and bringing down five rebounds. Alexis Juarez added five points, Elisabeth Ryan, four, and Whitney Sandberg scored two points.
Mountain Home shot 29 percent from the field, hitting three of 14 three-pointers. They made just one of seven free throws.
Caldwell shot 45 percent of its shots, including seven of 15 long balls. They hit five of 14 free throws.
The taller Caldwell team outrebounded the Lady Tigers, 30-22. Whitney Sandberg led Mountain Home with six boards, Venessa Sabol had five, and Taylor Reed, four.
Skyview 69, Mountain Home 19
Coach Keener thought Caldwell shot well against his Lady Tigers Thursday night.
That was nothing compared to what the Skyview girls did Saturday night as they downed Mountain Home, 69-19.
Skyview hit 73 percent of its shots from the field in the first quarter as they rolled to a 28-8 lead. The Lady Hawks shot 63 percent for the first half as they led, 50-12, at the half.
Skyview's shooting average cooled off to 56 percent for the game, but the team continued to dominate.
"I don't know what to honestly say except we got beat by a really good team that couldn't miss," Keener said. "It was pretty impressive to watch. Too bad we were on the other side of it."
Whitney Sandberg led Mountain Home in scoring with six points. Missy Jessup scored five, Julia Burton, four, Anna Pedroza, three, and Alexis Juarez, one.
The Lady Tigers shot a chilly 20 percent from the field, hitting three of 11 three-pointers.
The Skyview loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 0-6 in league play and 0-17 overall. Mountain Home has just one game this week, hosting Bishop Kelly in league play on Thursday, Jan. 22.
