Dorothy Griffith
Dorothy Geraldine (Phillips) Griffith, 91, of Mountain Home, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Dorothy was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on Feb. 20, 1923, to Walter H. and Neva G. (Springer) Phillips.
She was the oldest of eight children. She married Robert Clayton "Jim" Griffith on April 17, 1950, in Lordsburg, N.M. Jim passed away on Aug. 26, 2001.
They were stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., until April 1953 when they transferred to Mountain Home Air Force Base in 1960.
They were transferred to Tachikawa Air Base, Japan, returning to the states in February of 1962 for three months at Norton Air Force Base in California then to Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Ala., until Jim retired from the Air Force in June of 1963 and they returned to Mountain Home.
Dorothy was a member of the American Legion, Post #26 Auxiliary and its past president.
She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Miriam Chapter #16 when she was initiated in January 1966. She was a Charter Member of the Order of the Amaranth Emerald Chapter #4. She was Royal Matron three times and also Grand Royal Matron 2002-2003 of the Grand Chapter in Idaho. She was also a member of the Elkette's #2276.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Walter H. Phillips of Florida, Arthur T. Phillips of New York and James W. Phillips of New York, and her sister, Donna R. Hindle, of New York. She is survived by six nieces, 12 nephews, 28 grandnieces and nephews and many great-grandnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, and her sisters, Grace, Lois and Mary.
