Donations restore fire department's 'burn-out' fund
One week ago, the Mountain Home Fire Department had $9,000 sitting in a fund dedicated to helping fire victims, especially those in the local area. The "burn-out" fund helps people and families get back on their feet after they've lost everything they own.
When a fire swept through the Day Meadows Apartment complex Oct. 23, city firefighters used these contingency funds to provided emergency financial help to those displaced by the blaze. By the time the department wrote their last check, the burn-out fund had just $17 remaining.
According to city fire chief Alan Bermensolo, his firefighters fully supported the decision to virtually use up those contingency funds.
