State AG issues advisory on election day voter scam

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

The state attorney general's office issued a warning earlier today regarding a telephone-related voting scam happening across the state on election day.

Complaints reported to the attorney general's consumer protection division indicate that someone is calling potential voters and offering to pay them $25 for their votes.

"Bribing someone for their vote is a crime," attorney general Lawrence Wasden said in a press statement.

There were no immediate indications that people in Mountain Home or surrounding communities were targeted by this scam. Those who receive these types of phone calls are urged to not engage with the caller and to immediately hang up the phone, he added.

The caller ID for these calls reads 714-714-4000, but it may not be the actual number. The attorney general's office dialed the phone number, but the call did not go through.
