Darvell Lavell Paige
1929 - 2014
Lavell passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was one of seven children born to Claude and Earlena Page in Carthage, Miss., on May 19, 1929. He came from a family of sharecroppers and cotton farmers.
His dad passed away at a very young age, so Lavell joined the Army Air Corps, then joined the U.S. Air Force to help support the family. He met the love of his life, Kittie Lester, at Geiger Field, Spokane, Wash. They were married on March 7, 1948, in Greeley, Colo.
He was a true patriot and served his country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He served in many duty stations coming from England to Mountain Home, Idaho, in 1957. His last duty station was Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico. Upon his retirement, they decided to remain in Mountain Home where Lavell worked civil service at MHAFB and for John and Claude Bermensolo at Mountain Home Agency. They moved to Boise in 1984, where he managed Granger Mobile Home Park for 23 years.
He was past President of DAV and American Legion in Mountain Home. He was a Life Member of Elmore #30 Masonic Lodge, York Rite Masons, Life Member of Boise Stable Camel Herders, El Korah Shrine. He was a Life Member of Miriam Chapter #16 Mountain Home and Meridian Chapter #66, Order of the Eastern Star. He served both Chapters as Worthy Patron many times. He served Grand Chapter of Idaho, as Worthy Grand Patron in 1983-1984 and General Grand Chapter on the on the Registration Committee. He loved the Masonic family and fellowship. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
He loved to go hunting and was an avid fisherman. This last year, he was a loyal patron of IHOP and Cracker Barrel. We thank them for being so kind.
His was overwhelmed with grief after the loss of his wife of 66 years in August of 2013. He is survived by daughter Linda (Dave) Hattrick from Kingman, Ariz., sons Claude (Linda), Joe (Teresa) and Darren (Laura) Paige, all of the Boise area. He has nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family gives special thanks to M.S.T.I. and St. Luke's Hospice for their great care and compassion and to the many friends that Lavell enjoyed daily visits with. A viewing will held Friday, Oct. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services are Saturday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. all at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise, Idaho. Rites will be given by members of Miriam #16 and Meridian #66, Order of the Eastern Star. Private family interment will be Monday.
