Man arrested after high-speed chase

Thursday, October 2, 2014

A high-speed chase Thursday afternoon that began on Airbase Road/Highway 67 near the base and concluded near TLK Dairy resulted in the arrest of a man who had fled on foot after wrecking the car he had been driving.

According to scanner traffic, authorities began chasing the man's vehicle when it was clocked at 109 mph. The driver then turned onto Highway 51 where speeds were reported to have peaked at around 124 mph. At the S curves on Highway 51 he went straight onto SW Jarvis Drive, eventually wrecking the car and fleeing on foot, leaving a female passenger in the vehicle.

Authorities on foot and in vehicles eventually cornered the suspect in some fields near TLK Dairy, off Beet Dump Road, and took him into custody about 4 p.m., roughly 30 minutes after the incident began.

No further details are currently available as the investigation is stilll underway.
