Feeling the spirt of the celebration

Children from the Love Abiding Christian Ministry's "Blossoming in Christ" dance team rehearse before their scheduled performance at this year's Juneteenth celebration on Saturday in Carl Miller Park.

Organized by Andrew Horton Military Lodge No. 8 Jurisdiction of Nevada, the event marks the anniversary of June 19, 1865, in which slaves in Texas were informed that they had been freed. It officially marked the last hold-out of slavery following the end of the Civil War.
