Council approves pay increase for city workers
City workers will see the first noticeable pay increase in four years after the city council approved an amended budget plan Monday evening.
The motion, approved during the salary discussions, included a 1.5 percent pay increase for all city workers with a pair of 3 percent step raises for selected employees.
On a 3-1 vote, with Councilman Jimmy Schipani voting in opposition, the council reversed its decision on an earlier salary plan approved June 9. That previous plan included a 3 percent across-the-board pay increase for city workers along with a pair of additional 3 percent raises for employees whose pay had remained frozen for the past four years.
